Partner IJI visit to Lebanon, represented By Father John K. Guiney

MASIR Association for Human Rights met its Irish partner, the Irish Jesuits International Organization represented by its Director, Father John K. Guiney, which they collaborated together to work on the “Back to School” In Tripoli project.

Four families of Lebanese women married to foreigners were assisted throughout this project by returning 11 boys and girls to school, financially supporting them, and providing vocational training to four mothers, so that they could earn more money to support their families.

The meeting with the project’s beneficiary families took place in the home of one of the families in Tripoli-North, in the presence of Father John K. Guiney President of the Irish IJI organization, President of the MASIR Moustafa Shaar Association, and its project manager, Mariam El Zahabi, as well as all of the beneficiary families.

The beneficiaries spoke with Father John about the changes that occurred in their lives as a result of the project’s support, which allowed them to return their children to school after a break and help them secure the necessary expenses, as well as vocational training for mothers so that they can find a job opportunity that allows them to support their husbands, and they also shared with him the difficulties and economic problems that they had previously experienced.

They also highlighting the value of education right for them, and are willing to do all it takes to ensure that their children have access to it and that education protects them from harm.

Moustafa Shaar, MASIR director, also met with Father John in the association’s office in Beirut, where he presented to him the prior projects of MASIR, and what “My nationality my dignity” campaign accomplished in terms of facilities, support, and public opinion mobilization about the right of nationality.

He also discussed with him the series of problems, obstacles, and racism suffered by the children of a Lebanese mother married to a non-Lebanese man and stateless, discussing with him their needs and possible ways of cooperation to provide them with assistance and support, especially on the educational level.
